Who to Contact

Supporting the needs of someone with MND can be complex.

We run an MND Advisors service.  Our Advisors provide support to those diagnosed with MND and their families.  They can help you navigate the health system as well as assisting you to source aids and equipment items.

Some of the support services you may wish to access include:

  • Your GP
  • Social worker
  • Specialists involved in their care
  • MND Advisor
  • Grief counsellor (through MNDAWA)
  • Respite care
  • Pharmacist
  • Speech and language therapist
  • Occupational therapist
  • Dietician
  • Physiotherapist
  • Respiratory team
  • Complementary therapies (in conjunction with conventional medicine) to ease symptoms and reduce stress and anxiety (e.g. massage, acupuncture, reflexology)
  • Residential and nursing home care if their support care needs become greater than what you can provide at home
  • Specialist palliative care

It’s a good idea to put together a list of key contacts and keep in a handy place (e.g., by the phone, on the fridge).

In an emergency, please dial 000.

Experiences

Lucy worries about who she can call on in an emergency as she has no close family living nearby. Her MND Advisor helps her put together a list of emergency contacts (e.g., palliative care nurse, HealthDirect, GP). She encourages her to use her local community (e.g. neighbours, members of her social groups) for non-emergency help.
