Communication Changes in MND

10:00AM - 12:00PM Tuesday 30th June 2026
The Niche, 1 Aberdare Rd, Nedlands, WA

Join MNDAWA as we partner with Better Rehab and Control Bionics to deliver an engaging and practical session exploring communication changes in Motor Neurone Disease (MND) and the various supports that are available.

Designed for people living with MND of all ages, family members, carers and health professionals, this interactive event will provide valuable information, practical strategies and the opportunity to explore a range of assistive technology options in a relaxed and supportive environment.

Together, we will explore how MND can impact communication, practical approaches to managing communication changes, strategies that communication partners can use to support more effective and meaningful conversations. The session will also showcase a range of assistive technology solutions designed to help those living with MND maintain connection and independence, and assist health professionals in understanding how to access them both through the NDIS and MNDAWA.Attendees will hear from a Speech Pathologist, Occupational Therapist and the team from Control Bionics, and will have opportunities to ask questions, connect with others, and explore and trial communication devices firsthand.

Importantly, this session is not only for people currently experiencing communication changes, it is also highly valuable for those in the earlier stages of MND who may not yet have changes to their speech or communication. This is because planning ahead can make a significant difference, giving individuals and families the opportunity to explore options, understand available supports and develop a communication plan before changes occur. Engaging with a Speech Pathologist early can help people living with MND remain connected, maintain independence and make informed decisions about communication strategies and assistive technology that may support them over time. Early intervention also allows people to understand their options now, rather than needing to make decisions during periods of rapid change or increased urgency.

This event is designed for people living with MND, family members, carers and health professionals.

Light refreshments will be provided.
